Chemistry Labs Unlock Secrets of Radiation Students in Tom Hatch’s Chemistry classes at Northern High School will conduct experiments on typical household items that once contained radioactive material Thursday, March 11 thanks to equipment loaned by Advancing Science at Gettysburg College. The students will test shielding materials and determine the effects of distance, shielding, exposure time and source of radiation on such items as smoke detectors, Fiesta dinnerware and camping lanterns. A representative from Advancing Science will assist with the experiments from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
